I’ve posted about road dangers before (here and here, among others), but at this time of year it’s good to have a reminder.
Having lived up in Northwestern PA, in the Spring of every year, there would always be a rash of accidents where it was motorcycle vs. deer, or some other animal.
I worked at a Suzuki/Kawasaki/Honda dealership for a few years, and we saw more than a few guys bring in their messed up bikes plastered with deer hair. Honestly, you wouldn’t believe where we would find deer chunks in the fairings, engine parts, etc.
Sure, loud pipes help, but when you’re on a fast-mover, the bunnies and critters don’t have much time to get out of the way.
Also, keep in mind that no matter how loud your pipes are, sound is directional. Wherever your pipes open up (to the side or aimed behind you) is where the majority of the noise will go.
So keep an eye out. The weather is warming up, and the animals are twitterpatin’. Chances are, you aren’t the only thing on the road when you’re out on that night ride.
